I'm sexy and I know it. The Dell XPS 15 is a multimedia powerhouse with premium-level features. The most recent version of the notebook series, which has been around for quite a few generations, not only brings changes to the design, but also updates to the internal components.

At the end of the day, what can be said about the XPS 15 is that it’s a great looking laptop and on paper it checks all the right boxes. In practice, I’ll be frank and state that it’s been a bit of a love/hate relationship with the XPS 15, but the hate comes more from being frustrated by my inability to get consistent results.

Everything about the XPS screams luxury, from its class-leading screen and physical design to the high-end components and quality ergonomics. It’s unmistakably one of the finest laptops around. It’s potentially better than its near-identical stablemate: the XPS shares its screen, design and keyboard with the Dell Precision M3800, but it’s got a bigger SSD, better battery and beefier GPU. The M3800 is only worth buying if you need its ISV certification – but that’s the only reason why you’d pay almost £100 more for the M3800.

If you’re looking for a sexy notebook that can deliver at least credible gaming performance, and you’re prepared to pay for the privilege of owning a powerful machine in a thin, lightweight package, Dell’s new XPS 15 is definitely for you. The XPS 15’s positives—great screen, great performance, great overall look, and easy portability—easily justify its lofty price tag.

Dell’s XPS 15 is a valiant attempt to compete with the best premium notebooks but, ultimately, it falls a bit short. The blame for this lies with the display, which pads the price but doesn’t add much to the user experience. Is it sharp? Certainly. But poor black levels sap contrast and ultimately sour the overall package.

Dell has put nearly everything I could ask for from a slim, premium 15-inch into the XPS 15, including a great higher-res screen, a discrete GPU, and a powerful CPU. Perfectly executed, the $1,900-and-up price seems fair, but a handful of missteps keep me from loving this system as much as I hoped I would.

The Dell XPS 15 delivers powerhouse performance at a premium price, and you're getting a sharper screen than the MacBook Pro for $300 less (similarly configured). We also like the comfortable soft-touch deck and robust speakers. The notebook occasionally gets hot and isn't great for demanding games, but the XPS 15 makes up for those shortcomings with a 7-hour battery life that will last through the bulk of your workday.

Dell positions this laptop as a desktop replacement, It uses high-end graphics (the Nvidia GeForce GT 750M 2GB GDDR5 for the model I tested) so it works for video editing and, during off hours, just about any recent first-person shooter. Overall, it’s a top pick for me as a “real” laptop you would use as a primary system in the office or on the road.

Battery life is disappointing, especially as the XPS 15 is intended as a lightweight Ultrabook, although as a desktop replacement system it ticks more of the right boxes. It provides outstanding display quality and high-end performance at a competitive price, while still being slim and light enough to slip into a bag for the occasional business trip or weekend away.

Dell has done a great job In keeping with the XPS tradition of offering a high-end computing experience. The XPS 15 oozes quality with its machined aluminum, carbon fibre edges, vibrant display, durability and performance. The XPS 15 is an impressive premium 15.6-inch notebook that we’re happy to recommend. Its Quad HD+ (3200 x 1800) display has outstanding picture quality; no corners were cut with the lightweight (4.44 lbs) aluminum and carbon fiber construction; it has ample performance for just about any application except high-end gaming; the keyboard and clickpad have a good feel; the speakers get loud enough and the battery life is impressive.

Despite being a lovely looking laptop, the Dell XPS 15 just has too many flaws to justify its price. We expect near-perfection at this price, and a laptop with an unresponsive touchpad and a problematic screen just isn't good enough when compared to the competition. If you need a powerful and beautifully designed laptop, the Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is the clear choice.

The Dell XPS 15 is by far one of the best laptops we have tested in a long time. It's hard to fault, as its weaknesses – which are few – aren't too significant. For example, the trackpad taking some to get used to will become irrelevant after time, and the chassis being prone to scratches is preventable if you look after the laptop properly and buy a protective carry case. The real caveat here, though, is the price. At just less than £1,700 for a laptop configured as reviewed, the XPS 15 doesn't come cheap. However, the laptop does start at a much lower price of £1,099, but for this you would have to sacrifice a lot of performance, as this buys you a lower entry-level specification: an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a slower 500GB hard drive with a 32GB SSD to manage faster boots.

Dell’s XPS 15 is a system of extremes. The display provides incredible sharpness, but its quality is well below average. The processor and video card perform well, but the fan struggles to cool them at full load. The 512GB solid state drive is massive, but contributes to the notebook’s hefty $2,349 asking price.

The Dell XPS 15 9530 is a great laptop to use. The bright, vibrant and incredibly high resolution screen is truly beautiful to look at, though it does have a major drawback – it is extremely reflective. This makes it very difficult to use in a bright room or in an outdoor environment, as the reflection of your own face will be very distracting. In low light conditions, the gloss screen does help improve media viewing quality, but a matt finish would be more to our own tastes. That screen looks stunning when playing ‘casual’ titles like Hearthstone but it will struggle to run anything moderately intensive at native resolutions … the modest GT750M graphics are just not designed for this. It’s not that 1080p looks bad, but it just seems wasteful having all that pixel density and not being able to use it. It might have been nice to see an upgrade option for a 765M or 770M, but then you’re crossing over into Alienware territory.

Every laptop has a target market—students, business execs, multimedia buffs—and every laptop has competitors. This year's Dell XPS 15 is one of the most luxurious laptops we've ever tested, with a super-high-resolution screen that tops even Apple's MacBook Pro With Retina Display. Note, though, that we'd vote for the SSD- rather than our hard-drive-based config.

Dell's XPS line of laptops have always been about foregoing compromise in the pursuit of a premium mobile experience. Have you ever street raced against a sleeper car? That's sort of what Dell has on its hands with the XPS 15 Touch. It looks like an Ultrabook and feels like one too, but hidden inside that unassuming exterior is some seriously fast hardware.

The Dell XPS 15 (9530) is a high-end desktop replacement laptop, and that’s a funny place to be. With its brilliant screen and serious components, the luxury-minded Dell XPS 15 (9530) is Dell's showcase PC meant to go up against high-end laptop offerings. Unfortunately, its price and battery life keep it from taking the top spot.

The XPS 15 (9530) certainly trumps its Windows-based competition like the Asus Zenbook VX51VZ-XB71 in battery life, price, and features. But how does it stack up to the Apple MacBook Pro, our current Editors' Choice for desktop replacement laptops? It matches the MacBook Pro in performance (multimedia and 3D), has more RAM, higher resolution touch screen, and twice the storage. However, it also has a higher price by almost $300, problems with glass reflectivity, and two hours less battery life. The MacBook Pro comes with iWork and iLife apps, which arguably make the MacBook more useful without additional purchases for the XPS 15. In terms of bragging rights, premium construction materials, and wow factor, both are even. It is very close, but those two hours of battery life and $300 price difference tips the scales in favor of the current champ. The XPS 15 (9530) comes highly recommended, but at the end of the day if we were in the market for such a system and if it were our money, we'd buy the MacBook Pro.

The high-quality design, well-balanced components and stonking screen make the XPS one of the best Windows laptops on the market, and it's further bolstered by its solid build quality and excellent screen. The MacBook Pro has a better battery, but it's $156 (about £100, or AU$212) more expensive – which means the XPS is a top-notch alternative, and one of the best Windows laptops on the market.

Perhaps not this particular model, with its sluggish 5,400rpm hard disk. Instead, you should opt for one of the £1,149 machines, which comes equipped with a PCI Express-based SSD, or at the very least a model that also has a 32GB SSD cache. In return, system response, loading times and the general feel of Windows 10 will be far more sprightly.

The Dell XPS 15 is a great all-rounder laptop. Come to it expecting superlatives, especially the version tested, and you may come away disappointed. However, it is very versatile indeed. It offers a powerful CPU, a competent discrete graphics card, a screen happy with the outdoors and a frame that's light and slim given the rest of the spec. It can do everything pretty well, without the power compromises of an ultra-skinny laptop, or the portability ones of a workstation. Some will be disappointed with the stamina, but it's actually rather respectable given the processor. It's a laptop that's good at just about everything, bar lasting absolutely ages between charges.

If you’ve been looking for the best portable Windows machine that money can buy or need a Windows alternative to the 15-inch Macbook Pro, the Dell XPS 15 is arguably the only machine you should consider. It’s powerful and thin, offers an excellent keyboard and vibrant 4k display and, disappointing battery life aside, is one of the best machines I’ve ever used.

Dell has always delivered to its consumers with appealing devices, which doesn’t only look heavy but is definitely sturdy, as well. The Dell XPS 13 is total a game changer as soon as it is unboxed. Not only does it compliment the line of ultrabooks, it is also, a perfect amalgamation of Fashion and Technology, embracing the love affair between the two. Dell’s refreshed XPS 13 is immaculately crafted, flushed with rareness of Gold with the smoothness of carbon fibre deck.

I love the keyboards on ThinkPad notebooks, and the trackpads on MacBooks. But the XPS 15 is my new favorite laptop, hands down. This is not to downplay the XPS 13, itself a fine ultra-portable machine with tremendous upside. The price on the 13-inch machine begins at just $799, and it provides a tremendous experience if you don't need the additional power or larger, better display of the 15-inch model.

How do you go about making the ultimate 15in Windows laptop? For Dell, the formula turned out to be disarmingly simple: take the smaller XPS 13, make it bigger, add a discrete GPU and a gorgeous 4K display, and Bob's your uncle.

Aside from a handful of niggles, and the somewhat disappointing battery life, Dell should be patting itself on the back for delivering yet another top-notch Windows 10 laptop. The XPS 15 is powerful, portable and equipped with all the features anyone could ask of a high-end device. Factor in the genuine gaming capabilities, and the XPS 15 could be very popular from the bedroom to the boardroom.

All told it’s hard not to be enamored with the new Dell XPS 15. It’s a gorgeous combination of cutting-edge mobile technology, coupled with premium build materials like machined aluminum and carbon fiber. What’s not to love? If that weren’t enough, Dell’s breakthrough Infinity Edge display technology is now finally available in a 15-inch format that allows it to be accommodated in a super-compact, high quality, essentially 14-inch chassis design.

After everything is said and done, the Dell XPS 15 2016 model is one of the best notebooks you’ll find in the 15-inch premium laptop category. The XPS 15 easily rivals the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro and delivers various cutting-edge features on par with the ASUS ZenBook Pro. Unfortunately, the mediocre battery life and expensive price tag (relative to the previously mentioned MacBook Pro and ZenBook Pro) prevent us from giving this Dell our Editor’s Choice Award.

If you've been looking for a Windows alternative to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, Dell's XPS 15 is your best bet -- and I'd argue your only suitable one. It's powerful and thin and light for what it is, with a comfortable keyboard and a lovely 4K, color-accurate screen option. My only real disappointment is that the battery life is rather short -- not a surprise with a 4K display, but still a shame.

The Dell XPS 15 is a stunning laptop. It doesn’t have the instant visual impact of the diminutive XPS 13, but there’s no doubt it’s packed plenty of power into a streamlined 15.6in laptop. It marries performance with stylish looks, and it more than meets expectation considering its premium price.

The XPS 15’s keyboard could be bigger. The backlight-bleeding issue could use some work. But the overwhelming amount of people interested in this size of laptop buy these machines for performance, and that’s where the XPS 15 shines. Sure, it’s not quite the tiny, game-changing laptop that the XPS 13 was, but that’s not entirely fair. As anyone who has suffered sibling rivalry knows, sibling means sibling. Not twin. Siblings have to find their own path forward, not just follow, and the XPS 15 does that quite well.

So, rather than being kick-ass gaming portable, the Dell XPS 15 is more of a good all-round notebook with great battery life that you can also play games pretty well on. It’s also a little on the pricey side, when MSI’s brilliant GS40 6QE Phantom can be had for over £100 less, with much more compelling gaming abilities and a lighter chassis. Most of the price difference is due to the screen, however. It is lovely, and confers great bragging rights, but adds £300 to the price compared to the Full HD model. So the latter is the better value option, with Full HD better suited to the GPU performance anyway.

If you want a highly portable device with all of the bells and whistles and you are willing to pay for the higher price point, then the XPS 15 4K may be the device for you. Overall, it is a handsome device that is built with precision and durability. It also has plenty of features and performance to warrant the higher price tag. Either way, I believe that this is a fantastic laptop which will offers portability, connectivity, and performance.

The build quality is also superb and the InfinityEdge display still looks absolutely stunning. While I can’t attest to the 1,920x1,080 display model, you’ll certainly won't be disappointed by the Ultra HD XPS 15. Between this and the XPS 13, Dell has two shining lights that show off Windows 10 to its fullest. The XPS 15 is the ultimate Windows 10 laptop that competes with, and in many aspects overtakes, the 15in MacBook Pro, and it wins a Best Buy award.

The Dell XPS 15 is a premium-feeling 4K laptop that outdoes the MacBook Pro in several categories. Its bezel-free design should be the gold standard going forward. High-end midsize laptops frequently suffer from comparisons to the elephant in the room, Apple's much-loved MacBook Pro. In many cases the Pro is better designed, runs faster or longer, has better specs and is easier to use.

There’s no doubting that the Dell XPS 15 is a powerful laptop, making it a stylish and light alternative to plainer, chunkier workstation-class laptops. Its somewhat flawed keyboard and relatively short battery life count against it though. It’s also not cheap at £1333 ex VAT, but you can shave off £300 by opting for the non-touch 1080p model.

Beyond its high-end build quality and top-notch performance, you're probably considering the XPS 15's price tag. At $2229 as configured and tested here, the SKU we put through our process is definitely pricey. However, when you consider other yardstick machines that the XPS 15 will be measured against, Dell's offering is competitive.

Dell's redesigned XPS 15 delivers much of what we liked about its smaller 13-inch sibling, plus one of the nicest 4K screens we've seen. But all those bright pixels make it tough to achieve all-day battery life. And while it starts at $999, it's way pricier in our loaded Core i7 review configuration.

High-end power remains widely available in the 15-inch laptop form factor, so pricing is likely to be another significant factor for purchasers considering the category. Starting at $1,600 for the touchscreen version (the model I tested costs $2,100), the XPS 15 Touch isn’t stratospherically priced, but it is on the high end compared to touchscreen machines in the same ballpark like the Lenovo Y50 or Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-C, the latter of which even has the same display resolution. Is it worth a few hundred more bucks for a cutting-edge display and ready-for-tomorrow features like USB-C? Discuss amongst yourselves.

With that being said, we can conclude that this notebook can handle some gaming and short video rendering on-the-go (since the Turbo Boost feature of the CPU isn’t well utilized) but it will mostly suit people that don’t aim for prolonged usage away from the charger and those who are constantly in a need of perfect screen quality for color-sensitive work. Still, the price is a bit off and you may compensate with the Full HD variant without the touch panel as this is a great way to cut down the cost of this notebook. And probably it will do better in terms of battery performance.

As with the XPS 13 earlier this year, Dell has hit a home run. This extremely powerful portable is smaller and lighter than any other 15.6" laptop in its performance class. Build quality and materials are top notch and the carbon fiber keyboard deck is as ever comfy and uniquely Dell. The Infinity display, be it 1080p or 4K is stunning looking thanks to the bright IGZO panel and the nearly bezel-less display.

While I find some other laptops available on the market better at certain tasks (digital pen, convertible, etc.), there is really only one laptop with these high-end specs, premium design, and gorgeous display on the market. It is not a laptop for everyone, but I know three "regular" people who swear by this machine. While a 4.4-pound laptop sounds odd in 2016, sometimes you just need what the XPS 15 can deliver, and for that, I'm glad it's here.

The Dell XPS 15 is a fantastic laptop and a no-brainer purchase for anyone who wants a laptop that lives primarily on a desk at home or in the office. It’s cheaper and more highly specc’d than a MacBook Pro and makes far more sense to buy than something like a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The 4K screen is seriously gorgeous to look at while the colour accuracy makes it ideal for anyone working with graphics. We'd happily buy one of these for ourselves and that's about the highest praise we can give.

Some could accuse Dell of resting on its laurels, but the Dell XPS 15 (2022) remains one of the best premium laptops around, particularly if you can afford to splash out on a model with the gorgeous OLED screen. While the power-constrained GPU means it’s not as good for gaming as the specs suggest, it’s more than fast enough for anything and everything beyond that. Most of all, it’s great to use. If you’re in the market for a high-end Windows portable, put the Dell XPS 15 high on your shortlist.

Finally, since the two laptops share the same Core i7-12700H, their CPU-bound performance is pretty much the same. However, the RTX 3060 in the XPS 17 translates to a significant increase graphics performance over the XPS 15. If you’re looking for a laptop that can pull double duty as a work machine and an occasional gaming system, the XPS 17 will better perform that role than the XPS 15, so long as you don’t mind lugging around a heavier laptop. Potential buyers should also take note that the XPS 17 costs significantly more than the XPS 15. The XPS 17 starts at $1849, but our review unit is priced at $3049. Those considering picking the XPS 17 over the XPS 15 for the RTX 3060, might want to think twice about whether the bump in graphics performance is worth the additional cost. Nonetheless, so long as you have the cash, we don’t think you can go wrong with either system and both are fairly priced in comparison to similar premium (operative word) options in the market currently.

The Dell XPS line of laptops has long been regarded as the pinnacle of portable Windows computing. The Dell XPS 15 OLED (2022) continues this legacy of excellence. Even if it isn’t shaking up the computing world with never-before-seen features, it's an all-around solid machine that's perfect for everyday work and high-end gaming. But if you’re not convinced the XPS 15 is for you or don’t want a Windows laptop, consider the MacBook Pro 16-inch, which costs roughly $50 more than what our XPS 15 review unit sells for. While Apple's premium laptop isn’t great for gaming (unless you're playing games from Apple's macOS/iOS App Stores), it’s exceptional for everyday work and serious photo/audio/video editing. If you're looking for a gaming laptop comparable to the XPS 15 OLED, the Alienware m15 R4 and Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022) are solid choices. And if you want a more affordable alternative, the Alienware x14 is a good pick, even if it lacks an OLED screen. Still, there’s something to be said for a dependable laptop that does exactly what it needs to. While the Dell XPS 15 OLED is more of the same, that same is pretty darn awesome. If you need a great Windows ultraportable, this is it.

The Dell XPS 15 (2022) has a lot of plus points. The 3.5K OLED touch screen on my review configuration and the speakers -- standard on every configuration -- are excellent, and the build quality is exemplary. There are plenty of configurations, and, if budget allows, the ability to specify 4TB of storage (2TB in the UK) is impressive. And yet, for such a high-end laptop, the 720p webcam is disappointing, and Dell could have helped users with legacy gear by including on-board HDMI and USB-A ports. However, if these issues are of no concern, then maybe the Dell XPS 15 (2022) is indeed the Goldilocks of the XPS world.

One of the best laptops ever made just got even better, with new Intel Alder Lake processors and RTX GPUs packed into the classic XPS laptop design. It is a productivity powerhouse that is even capable of some moderate gaming. All in all, it's arguably the perfect computer for most Windows users; but if you want the very best, expect to pay a premium for the privilege.

The 2022 Dell XPS 15 (model 9520) sticks with the same elegant and rigid unibody aluminum design while refreshing to Intel 12th gen 45 watt processors for a significant performance jump over last year’s model. As with the 2022 XPS 17, we noteworthy a performance boost not only in benchmarks but in real world use with demanding applications like Adobe Premiere, Blender and code compiles. It’s available with NVIDIA RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti dedicated graphics. The XPS 15 has a 16:10 aspect ratio display with your choice of a full HD IPS, 3.5K OLED touch screen (our model) and 500 nit 4K IPS panels. It has Thunderbolt 4, 2 RAM slots, an M.2 SSD, full size SD card slot and a fingerprint scanner.

Little has changed on the Dell XPS 15 series in the last few years, but the 12th-gen Intel Alder Lake hardware implemented in this XPS 15 9520 generation impacts its overall capabilities and efficiency in a significant way. You should still not get this for its sheer performance, but as long as you understand and accept its design limitations and its various quirks, this mid-2022 XPS 15 could be the right multi-purpose premium Windows laptop for you this year.

The Dell XPS 15 9520 delivers the goods for content creators with its rugged and beautiful enclosure, stunning OLED display, and competitive performance with the latest Intel silicon and GeForce RTX graphics. It may be a tad too heavy for regular commuting, but office workers looking for a productivity machine with a high design and roomy display will also find lots to like about the XPS 15 9520. Given that it’s probably not making daily commutes, however, I wish Dell bumped the display up to a 16-inch 16:10 panel. The RTX 3050 Ti graphics aid its multimedia capabilities but are of limited use for 3D gaming. If you are devising a way to package a work laptop and gaming laptop into one, you’ll need to look elsewhere. You’ll likely be able to find another laptop with a higher-end RTX GPU for less than the cost of our RTX 3050 Ti-based test model, but you’ll need to sacrifice the OLED panel and settle for a lower screen resolution than the 3.5K resolution that our XPS 15 9520 provides.

I think the biggest reason not to get the Dell XPS 15 is if you want a productivity machine. That’s what U-series processors and integrated graphics are for, and something like a Dell XPS 13 would actually serve you much better than an XPS 15 would. Of course, there’s also the issue of the webcam, which is something to be aware of.

When it comes to getting things done, plenty of laptops offer a mix of hardware and features that can crunch numbers and power through heavy workloads. But the Dell XPS 15 (9520) does it with style, combining near-workstation performance with a refined design that's easy to use on the go and ready to handle the varied demands of connected life and creative apps. It's the very model of a modern desktop replacement.

At this point, the XPS 15 is the closest Dell has come to delivering a near-perfect workhorse machine. It's beautiful exterior hides tremendous power for serious tasks, but it can also handle games when you need some downtime. And on top of that, it packs pretty much every feature we'd want in a modern laptop, especially if you opt for that gorgeous OLED display. Just like Apple, Dell proves that a good design can last for years.

The Dell XPS 15 9520 picks up where its predecessor left off, retaining its best qualities and increasing performance. It’s a laptop that knows exactly what it wants to be — it’s not the fastest 15-inch laptop, nor is it the thinnest, but it’s the best combination of size and performance you can buy. You’ll love the build quality, adore the look, and appreciate the display. Yes, you’ll spend some extra cash compared to some competition, but the investment is well worth it. Dell paid attention to the details and engineered not only the best 15-inch laptop but one of the best laptops, period.

The Dell XPS 15 (2023) had a lot to live up to compared to its perfect-rated 2022 version, and for the most part, it succeeds quite well. But some issues here and there add up to an Ultrabook that ensures it doesn’t hold up quite the same as the older model.

The Dell XPS 15 OLED (2023) isn’t a monumental update over its predecessor. If you own the previous model, you can safely skip this year’s offering. With that said, this is still a phenomenal Windows laptop with a vivid OLED display, an amazing keyboard and speedy performance for both work and play. If you want a Windows laptop that’s great for working, gaming and some light video editing, you can’t go wrong with this notebook. If the XPS 15 OLED isn’t to your liking or you’d prefer an Apple laptop, the MacBook Pro 16-inch or MacBook Pro 14-inch make for awesome alternatives. For a lighter Windows laptop offering comparable performance, the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is a good choice. Though it’s a nominal update, the Dell XPS 15 OLED (2023) is another great example of what makes the XPS 15 lineup Dell’s answer to Apple’s MacBooks. Iterative or not, this is a brilliant laptop.

If I were to buy the Dell XPS 15, I'd be comfortable with a less-powerful RTX 4050 and a smaller storage size of 512GB, since most of my work is saved on the cloud. With the 3.5K resolution display add-on, that rings me up at around $2,049, a relatively fair price for one of the more premium Windows laptops out there. You'll save an additional $300 if you can live with the FHD+ (1920 x 1200) non-touch display. And if looks are all you really care about, the Dell XPS 15 can be had for as little as $1,299. No matter the price, you can expect reliable performance and battery life, and a design that's as timeless as they come.

The Dell XPS 15 9530 is a sleek, slim laptop that packs a punch despite its weight. To get much better performance than this, buyers need to consider bulkier gaming notebooks with bigger thermal solutions, higher power requirements, and heftier weights. Especially on the CPU side, the latest XPS 15 and its Intel 13th Gen Core i7 processor had plenty of get up and go for the vast majority of users. While gaming performance might have been disappointing compared to the biggest and baddest gaming laptops around, we found it to be more than satisfying for this class of machine, and with upscaling technology like DLSS 3.0 or even AMD's FSR being able to sharpen up lower-resolution images to look good, the XPS 15's 3.5K OLED display won't go to waste. Next up let's talk pricing.

The 2023 Dell XPS 15 is more or less exactly what you'd expect from the company flagship. Its fresh components deliver measurably superior power and longevity, while the machine's premium build and design remain intact. It may not be overly exciting, but XPS loyalists and upgraders should be more than happy. As far as drawbacks, our review unit is quite pricey, and the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU can't reach the potential here that it can in higher-wattage laptops. Still, the model 9530 has a reasonable starting price and lesser GPU upgrades are affordable. While it's far from a reinvention—and it's well past time to get at least a 1080p webcam in there—the XPS 15 easily repeats its Editors' Choice win as a top-notch desktop replacement.

Dell’s new XPS 15 is much like the old XPS 15, but faster. Much faster. The one-two punch of new Intel 13th-gen processors and Nvidia RTX 40-series graphics provides real-world upgrades over the prior model. The old XPS 15 was a respectable workhorse but not always an impressive performer, especially in 3D games. The new model is perfectly capable of handling even the most demanding modern titles at 60 FPS—when packing the RTX 4070, at least. There is still room for improvement. The touchpad can be overly sensitive and the webcam could use an upgrade. Still, these problems don’t detract from the XPS 15’s slim design, high build quality, and strong performance, and it remains a go-to pick for those craving a premium laptop with a balance of portability with speed.

Edit photos and videos? Check. Run a bunch of spreadsheets and multitasking tasks? Check. Run games at a reasonable frame rate? Check. The Dell XPS 15 can do all that and then some. Dell has created a serious powerhouse of a system with a 13th Gen Intel processor and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and doesn’t skimp on the multimedia with a vivid 3.5K OLED touch display and a banging 4-speaker setup. And while Dell is targeting creative professionals, the XPS 15 can make just about any PC fan happy. However, for $2,799, I wish the brightness was better and the battery life was longer. Now if you’re a Mac fan, you should definitely look into the MacBook 16, but bear in mind the system I reviewed costs an eye-watering $5,299. Overall, the Dell XPS 15 is a jack-of-all-trades laptop that does pretty darn well at everything.

The only catch is that this is a lower-power 40-watt version of the 4070 GPU, while the larger XPS 17 has access to the more powerful 60-watt version. For FHD gaming, however, it should make a big difference. Also keep in mind that if you're primarily using this for creative work, you'll want to download the latest Studio drivers from Nvidia (which come pre-installed), rather than the usual gaming drivers. I love being able to play games at serious detail settings on a conservative-looking laptop, and to be able to get away with just a simple USB-C charger. It's about 4.25 pounds, so it's not a laptop you'll want to carry around every day in a shoulder bag. For a bigger screen at a light weight, look at something like LG's excellent Gram line. With its big, high-res OLED screen and powerful components, I see the XPS 15 as a good Windows-based alternative to a MacBook Pro, or as a semi-desktop-replacement system for your home office.

The Dell XPS 15 (2023) laptop is a refresh of the phenomenal version from 2022, which scored a perfect five out of five stars from us. But while the 2023 model has mostly stayed the same in terms of design and offerings, there are some key differences between the two, both good and bad. From the outside, you see the same light silver chassis that sets it apart from many of the other best Ultrabooks. Though it feels comparable to the best light and thin laptops in terms of weight, the chassis still has a nice, hefty feeling to it. It’s also the exact same chassis from the previous model, which was also a work of art. It only makes sense not to alter a design that served it so well. Just as with any Dell laptop, there are a wide variety of configurations and specs to choose from, depending on what your needs are.

The 2023 Dell XPS 15 (9530) has significant internal upgrades this year with NVIDIA RTX 4050/4060/4070 dedicated graphics and Intel 13th gen H series 45 watt CPUs. There are two 16:10 display options, including the lovely 3.5K OLED panel, a relatively compact USB-C charger, Windows Hello facial and fingerprint recognition and upgradable internals. As ever, this is a multimedia and mobile workstation laptop that can handle some gaming too.

As I’ve mentioned throughout this review, there’s much to like about the XPS 15 (9530)’s design. It’s still sleek and modern enough that newer 15-inch laptops don’t eclipse it, but even so, it’s starting to feel a little dated. Certainly, you can’t fault the build quality. But the CPU upgrade was underwhelming, providing minimal performance improvement — unlike the XPS 15 (9520), which was a big jump over its previous generation. It’s only the addition of the RTX 4070 option that gives the XPS 15 (9530) a meaningful boost in performance, and even there, it’s less than it might be due to the GPU running close to its minimal power specification. Toss in an old-school 720p webcam and Wi-Fi 6, and this year’s XPS 15 lacks some of the cutting-edge feel it once had.
