This is a laptop that’s beset by little niggles, none more disappointing than the infinity display, which is meant to be the star of the show. If all you want is a fast Windows laptop with a bright screen, and colour accuracy isn’t of prime importance, it’s a fantastic piece of kit. But it isn’t all that we were hoping for.

A big, solid yes: high-resolution displays and compact bodies are the way laptops are heading. Tablets have been packing QHD+ displays for some time, and small portable productivity machines like the Dell XPS 13 mark an exciting shift in the industry for anyone who values a touchscreen and a full-size keyboard. Like many other laptops with pixel-packed displays, the Dell suffers from battery life drain, something that Intel's future generations of processors will look to address.

These knocks against the XPS 13 prevent us from awarding it a Kick Ass score, but quibbles aside, this is still a great Ultrabook. Its 12.9-second boot-up time is among the fastest we’ve ever seen, and the laptop is ultimately quite sleek, incredibly portable, and priced fairly. It’s not perfect, but it may very well be the best Ultrabook out there at the moment.

Overall, the Dell XPS 15 is a great example of a well-executed product with a lot of strengths and little to complain about. It's a top-shelf multimedia notebook with all the bells and whistles—and this latest iteration adds value with a 4K enhancement on the 3K display we raved about last year. We thoroughly enjoyed just about every aspect of the XPS 15, from its exquisite build quality to its solid overall performance.

Well-built, extremely compact and with an impressive battery life and beautiful display, the XPS 13 is a real success story. It'll be great for anyone wanting a truly transportable device, something that you can put in your bag and take with you anywhere. You will, however, always need a flat surface so that the cooling vents are kept clear.

There is simply no finer thin and light laptop currently available for Windows users than the 2015 iteration of the Dell XPS 13. Aside from a slightly below par keyboard, on every other level it’s up there with the best ultrabooks and yet costs just £799 for the perfectly adequate entry level model. This vastly undercuts most of its Windows competitors and is even £50 cheaper than the 13in MacBook Air, while delivering a considerably better screen. It’s near perfection in portable computing.

The XPS 13 is like a new sports car that instantly becomes a classic. Dell has done an amazing job with the super-slim Aluminium with Carbon fibre design and the Infinity Display makes it hard to take your eyes off it. Add to that a pretty good performance and a reasonable battery life and you have a great Ultrabook- possibly the best I’ve seen running Windows. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a premium quality Windows ultrabook.

Dell's consumer notebooks have really impressed us over the last year, and the XPS 15 is further proof. It has a gorgeous design, an impressive 4K display, and more than enough performance for photo and video editors. My only concern is the amount of heat it kicks out, so you'll want to keep it on a desk, rather than on your lap.

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the slickest, most stylish ultrabooks we've seen in years. It's powerful, too, meaning you'll never be short on processing performance when you need it. The only reservation we have is caused by the screen, particularly the backlight leakage and Windows 8.1's poor way of scaling applications.

The Dell XPS 13 9343 stands as a shining beacon of hope in the world of Windows laptops, a compact laptop that outdoes the obvious competition in some key respects like screen quality and near-borderless display. Here is a 13.3-inch laptop that takes up little more space than an 11.6-inch model. Poor thermal management needs to be improved, while a non-touchscreen version could answer other outstanding issues.

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the finest-looking Windows laptops ever built. With a powerful processor, an SSD and a bag-friendly 1.3kg weight, it's a seriously impressive technical feat. We have reservations about the screen, though. The tiny bezels are gorgeous and screen performance alone is good, but the problems with scaling, backlight bleed and automatic brightness may prove irksome to some, even if they aren't deal breakers. As it stands, the XPS 13 is a standout premium Ultrabook.

Everyone wants to build the perfect laptop but that is nearly an impossible task given the range of preferences from consumers. Dell is closer to that pinnacle laptop than any I have previously used, combining a first-class design with high performance components, extended battery life and portability. Are there faster laptops you can buy? Yep. Are there thinner and lighter notebooks using Broadwell? Again, yes. Can you find longer battery life in a portable machine? Absolutely, especially in business lineups. But can anything else claim to meld all of these points together with the best trade-offs possible, as the Dell XPS 13 does? I don’t believe so, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

While the $700 Asus ZenBook UX305 is very capable and a good bargain, it can't measure up to the Dell XPS 13's performance and smaller size. True, the ZenBook has a better assortment of ports, twice as much RAM and storage space, and a three-year warranty, but it has nothing that can compare to the Dell's more than 11-hour battery life.

The new XPS 13 from Dell is a truly astonishing device with minimal design flaws, whatsoever. It has a sleek and elegant aluminum chassis with carbon fiber inner frame making it really durable and light at the same time. Also, the display has really thin bezels making it even more compact, while the keyboard remains big enough for comfortable use. The keys are big enough and you will barely see the difference from a full-sized one. The touchpad also has a great design with only one drawback – we’ve noticed some unresponsiveness when using two-finger gestures, like scrolling for example.

The Dell XPS would be remarkable enough if its only unusual feature were its compact size and tiny screen bezels. But as one of the first laptops with a Broadwell U series processor it also offers strong performance for most tasks, passable performance for light gaming, and reasonably long battery life (even if the laptop doesn’t come close to the extraordinarily-long battery life Dell had promised).

As much as I like the MacBook Air, its design has been surpassed by the XPS 13. It's smaller and lighter, and lasts nearly as long on a charge. Having tested both the $1,399 quad-HD touch-screen XPS 13 and the $899, nontouch 1080p version, I prefer the latter. As someone who mainly uses desktop mode in Windows 8.1, I'll gladly sacrifice the touch screen for 4 additional hours of battery life.

If you’re in the market for a Windows laptop, the XPS 13 should be at the top of your list. But if you’re not tied to a particular operating system, Apple is expected to refresh its MacBook Air line soon, so you may want to wait a bit and see what the company has to announce.

Dell did a great job with the XPS 13 9343. They created a compact and light laptop with a 13 inch display, fast hardware, good keyboard/trackpad and long battery life, and on top of all these, a laptop with very little flaws. On the other hand, the proper priced options lack a touchscreen, so if you're not a big fan of matte panels, you're going to have to pay a lot for a model configured to your needs. In the end, when I draw the line, the reviewed Dell XPS 13 model is a good buy. For me is a lighter, smaller, faster and longer lasting computer than my old ThinkPad. I’m loosing on ports and typing experience, but I’m gaining plenty, so I’m happy to make the switch. For everyone else, I believe the XPS 13 can be a solid option if you need a compact, well built and fast computer for everyday activities. It’s not without rivals, and I’m looking here and the Acer Aspire S7-393 and even the Core M Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and Asus Zenbook UX305, plus the other devices that will be released in the future, including that rumored 12 inch Macbook Air. But it should face them all head-high.

In our opinion, the new 2015 Dell XPS 13 is the notebook to beat currently, for 13-inch machines. It's quite frankly as near "perfect" a design as we've ever seen in an utlralight notebook. Though its smaller 11.9-inch form factor and keyboard area may take some getting used to for those with larger hands that like a roomier typing deck, it's an easy learning curve worth making an effort for, without question.

There's a reason the XPS 13 was a Best of CES finalist: It's not only one of the top laptops we saw at the show, but also one of the finest PCs we're likely to see for months to come. If you're in the market for a new Windows laptop -- something small and light with fast performance and a great screen -- this should absolutely be on your short list.

In the end, I honestly have few complaints beyond the compressed keyboard and odd camera placement. The XPS 13 gives you good performance and great battery life in an incredibly compact and solid-feeling package. Even the pricing is almost reasonable. This model with its 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and QHD+ touchscreen costs $1,400. If that’s too rich, Dell really takes a shot at Apple with its base model. That XPS 13 comes with a 1920x1080 non-touch IPS panel, 128GB SSD and 4GB of RAM. At $800, it packs components a magnitude better than the MacBook Air 11's, and it’s $100 cheaper.

When all is said and done, the latest Dell XPS 13 Touch's strengths are the brilliant touch screen, sturdy build quality, thin construction, and very solid performance from the fifth-generation Intel Core i5 processor. The Toshiba Kirabook 13 i7 Touch remains our top pick for high-end ultrabooks though, thanks to its longer battery life, two-year warranty (including tech support and Internet security), and bundled software. That said, the XPS 13 Touch should be on your short list if you're looking for a well-built, thin, light, and powerful touch-screen Windows laptop.

Dell's redesigned XPS 13 is compact, extremely attractive, and perhaps the best all-around Windows laptop you can buy. But expect frequent fan noise, and if you want a touch screen, be prepared to pay a lot while sacrificing some battery life compared to non-touch configurations.

I was already enamored with the design of the older Dell XPS 13, but the Lilliputian 2015 version impressed me even more. For those who really value their space, this 13-inch notebook in an 11-inch package will free up enough space on your tray table for a drink and a bag of nuts. At $1,399 as configured, the XPS 13 sits in between the $1,299 EliteBook Folio 1020 and the $1,499 Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.

Dell’s XPS 13 looked amazing on the show floor, but sometimes first impressions hide flaws that become obvious on close inspection. Thankfully, that’s not true here. This notebook is an excellent piece of engineering that combines the latest Intel hardware with a robust, attractive and portable system.

For this nearly bezel-less design, the starting price of $799 is an excellent value, although you're very likely going to want to trade up to the better Core i5 CPU and the higher-resolution touchscreen, which puts this in the same territory as a premium system like the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

No compromises - part 2. Compact, highly mobile, attractive - this is how one could sum up the Dell XPS 13. Thanks to its Core i7 processor, the notebook is quite powerful as well, although the battery life suffers as a result.

All the same, it’s up against stiff competition from the Asus Zenbook UX305. The £650 Asus is a little slower, larger and heavier, but it’s also a whole lot cheaper than the XPS 13's £1,199 asking price while still being brilliant - even the entry-level 13in MacBook Air costs £849. If size, weight and a backlit keyboard weren’t all-important, that would swing things Asus’s way for us.

I love the keyboards on ThinkPad notebooks, and the trackpads on MacBooks. But the XPS 15 is my new favorite laptop, hands down. This is not to downplay the XPS 13, itself a fine ultra-portable machine with tremendous upside. The price on the 13-inch machine begins at just $799, and it provides a tremendous experience if you don't need the additional power or larger, better display of the 15-inch model.

The Dell XPS 13 2016 edition is a solid update to the XPS 13 with several desirable improvements over older XPS notebooks. The chassis design is attractive and well thought out. The available hardware configurations make perfect sense for a premium 13-inch Ultrabook. The battery life is more than good enough for most road warriors and once you get used to the atypical placement of the webcam and the weak speakers this turns out to be a fantastic notebook for web conferencing while on the go.

The latest version of the Dell XPS 13 continues to be a best-in-class laptop. It has a chassis that's smaller than the competition's, strong performance, and a great keyboard and touchpad. In the end, the XPS 13's biggest competition is itself. The quad-HD display on the touch-screen version is more colorful and vibrant, while the nontouch model lasts 4 hours longer on a charge.

In terms of Dell's total package here, For anyone seeking a thin and light ultrabook that doesn't compromise on performance, you really don't need to look any further than the XPS 13. Many competing manufacturer's products, such as the new Macbook or the ASUS Zenbook UX305, have paired down their processing power to a Core M chip to maintain a thin profile.

The XPS 13 is a welcome return to tip-top form for Dell. In fact, there’s only one thing that really bugs me about the XPS 13, and that’s Dell’s stubborn insistence on forcing dynamic contrast on at all times. It's a stupid decision, in my opinion. That aside, I absolutely love this thing. I could wish for a better GPU – yes, I really do want a slim, gorgeous ultraportable that also plays GTA V – but it'll be a few years until ultraportables routinely come with decent gaming-class graphics. As it stands, this is a powerful, light, lovely ultraportable that comes a hair’s breadth from perfection. I think I can settle for that.

The refreshed Dell XPS 13 doesn’t go too far from its predecessor in terms of design and build quality. Both are impeccable and make the whole experience using the notebook a delight. Also, the choice of materials not only makes the notebook look and feel great but also add to the incredible sturdiness of the machine. We cannot miss mentioning the incredibly low weight and overall dimensions since the laptop features almost frameless screen design.

The 2015 Dell XPS 13 is a well built, compact laptop that outdoes the obvious competition in some key respects such as screen quality and near-borderless display. Here is a 13.3-inch laptop that takes up little more space than an 11.6-inch model. The new 9350 model adds a non-touchscreen full HD option to the range, and means prices are now more affordable.

Dell's "prosumer" laptop gets a successful Intel Skylake refresh. The speedy processor is just one of many reasons to consider the XPS 13, with a stunning, near-borderless UHD+ display, exquisite build quality and a very capable webcam. Without wanting to downplay the importance of battery and storage, there are enough good things about the refreshed XPS 13 that living with its faults doesn't seem like a big price to pay. Of course, there is a very literal big price to pay, but even for that kind money you're getting a thin and light laptop with a gleaming new processor that can breeze through demanding tasks with the best of them - all while rendering in beautiful UHD+. It's not perfect, but it is our current favourite Skylake laptop.

The XPS 13 is remarkable machine. It is perfect for someone who wants a crisp sharp display, especially if you like to edit photos on the go like me. It is very solid in terms of build quality and should last long. In terms of performance, I had no complaints. This isn’t a gaming machine, but it can handle less resource hogging games. So yes, I am not left behind when I have impromptu CS 1.6 sessions with my friends. I expected a bit more out of the battery, but with that resolution I think a 6.5-7 hour battery life is acceptable.

The XPS 13 certainly isn’t the cheapest machine on the market but considering everything it has to offer, the pricing is certainly fair. Innovation isn’t cheap and the XPS 13 is certainly innovative, combining very impressive specs into an impossibly thin body and once you pick it up, you’re likely to want to buy one straight away.

I could wish for a better GPU – yes, I really do want a slim, gorgeous ultraportable that also plays Grand Theft Auto V – but it will be a few years until ultraportables routinely come with decent gaming-class graphics. An upgrade to Intel’s Skylake CPUs headlines the list of changes made to the XPS 13 for the late 2015 model. The Core i7-6500U included with my review unit was around 5-10 percent faster on the CPU side than an equivalent last-gen Broadwell part, with performance gains of around 20% on the GPU side. These improvements aren’t huge, but fall in line with Intel’s typical generational jumps.

The old XPS 13 was already a great lightweight laptop. The new one is even better. With Intel’s latest processors you get better battery life and more performance, and while there’s a big price premium to be paid for the Infinity Display and Core i7 processor, it’s one worth paying if you have the wonga. We’ve seen other ultrabooks that are shinier and flashier, but none that packs so much into so little space while remaining practical. If you like to get around with your laptop, this one’s hard to beat.

Dell’s XPS 13 is an excellent piece of engineering that combines the latest Intel hardware with a robust, attractive and portable chassis. There are minor flaws. The speakers could be louder, the glossy display can be distracting in bright rooms, and the fan is loud at load. But those nitpicks are outweighed by tons of advantages. Display, keyboard, touchpad, performance, weight, battery life, size; in all these areas and more the XPS 13 excels.

The first 2015 Dell XPS 13 was one of the best portable ultrabooks around. Offering a compact design, solid performance and comfortable typing experience, it was an exceptional mobile productivity aid. As a result, it’s no surprise that the refreshed sixth-generation Intel-powered model is also excellent and easily outclasses competing ultrabooks, such as the Lenovo Yoga 900. If you want a portable laptop then you should definitely consider the XPS 13. However, the basic £850 version's display isn’t the best I’ve seen. Those with the cash would do better to invest in the more expensive QHD+ touchscreen model. If you’re not dead set on getting a proper laptop, there are also a number of convertibles at the same price point, like the Surface Pro 4, that are also worth a look.

Dell’s XPS 13 is an excellent piece of engineering that combines the latest Intel hardware with a robust, attractive and portable chassis. There are minor flaws. The speakers could be louder, the glossy display can be distracting in bright rooms, and the fan can be loud at load. But such nitpicks are outweighed by numerous advantages. Display, keyboard, touchpad, performance, weight, battery life, size; in all these areas and more the XPS 13 excels.

The Dell XPS 13 (9350) is an excellent laptop. I had a great time using it at CES 2016 and to me, there’s no situation that’s more “real world” than that. I appreciate very much that the chassis is smaller than other 13.3 laptops, and I liked the very good industrial design and the solid feel it has.

Businessman's toy. We have already reviewed many different configurations of the Dell XPS 13 (9350). This time we want to describe a variant with Intel i7-6560U CPU, integrated Intel Iris Graphics 540, and matte 1080p display. In addition, we will cover the intensively discussed CABC problem of the XPS 13 with FHD display.

Overall, I am left feeling pretty conflicted and confused about the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. I've always admired the standard XPS 13 as a high bar for great PC notebooks, and I have become a fan of 360-degree hinges through the Lenovo Yoga series.

The Dell XPS 13 was already excellent, and it’s a smart move from Dell to release this hybrid edition without compromising the design and functionality of the original vision. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is an ultrabook that will likely fit in to any home or work environment better than many other laptops out there. The thin bezels, excellent keyboard and thoughtful design are marred only by a high asking price.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a laptop you'll enjoy using, but probably won't like to pay for (in the UK at least). It's very slim and light, avoiding using one of those annoyingly shallow keyboards, which makes day-to-day use ideal. Its 360-degree hinge design is far subtler than most too, in particular the bling watchband hinge of the Lenovo Yoga.

There’s a lot to like about this and I’m really impressed with the specs, performance and the looks of the XPS 13-inch 2 in 1. The review unit is the top of the line i7 with 16GB of RAM and the larger SSD so unsurprisingly there wasn’t any performance issues. For the average user though, the i5 with 8GB is going to fulfil your needs with grunt to spare and save you a significant chunk of coin in the process.

Value is the only major issue, though, and in this growing crowd of ultra-slim, low-connectivity laptops, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is probably the model we'd choose if we could pick any of today's selection. It's incredibly portable but is still a joy to work on, thanks to its high-quality keyboard and trackpad.

It's so close that I'm going to put it this way: I have a longstanding preference for light laptops. The lighter the better (as long as the functionality isn't compromised too much). In this respect, I favor the MacBook. As I said, there's a big difference between 2.7 pounds (XPS) and 2 pounds (MacBook). That said, the XPS' faster performance, touch display, 360-degree hinge, carbon fiber palm rest, fingerprint scanner, and MicroSD card reader may appeal more to certain consumers and businesses.

So the choice is simple really. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is slower, features less battery life, has a worse collection of I/O, and its best area – its design – isn't that much better than the Spectre. And this is all in a package that’s more expensive. Sorry Dell, but in such a competitive market, that’s just not going to cut it.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a compact and versatile convertible laptop with a great screen and solid build quality. The use of an Intel Y-series processor should not put mainstream buyers off, and battery life is good enough to get most people through a working day. The repositioned webcam is welcome too. The only downside is a relative paucity of (USB-C-only) connectors.

Using the XPS 13 2-in-1 as a tablet is a bit odd at first, though. And let's just come out and tell it like it is - if you were considering a 12-inch MacBook, the Dell XPS 13 2-In-1 is a better option in just about every measurable way. Or, if you're considering the current 13-inch MacBook Air, Dell's standard XPS 13, now with Kaby Lake, eats it for lunch. That may be just our not completely humble opinion, but that's what we do here, offer opinions. The Dell convertible has some good points but its price coupled with its less impressive performance as compared to the XPS 13 clamshell, makes the latter a better buy. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 was introduced at the CES 2017 and was, in fact, one of the more impressive devices back then. As it turns out, the XPS 13 is too good a laptop to be overshadowed by its slightly remarkable little hybrid brother.

This Dell 2-in-1 hits all the right notes, but its biggest struggle isn't against its own kin—it's against its excellent competition. Namely, one really great HP 2-in-1: the HP Spectre X360. HP's best comes in a prettier package, has a webcam that's in the right spot, and even packs fully-powered Intel chips inside, making it faster. Oh, and it's cheaper; the Spectre I reviewed with an Intel i7 chip, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD rings the till at $140 less than the Dell. Very recently, HP even announced models with pen compatibility and even 4K displays, even further chipping away at the Dell's strong suits.

And, based on my conversations with potential PC buyers, that alone could be enough to tempt them away from rival machines. While Dell made some concessions with the XPS 13 2-in-1, I'm ultimately impressed that it managed to deliver a premium convertible laptop that mostly lives up to its beloved predecessor.

Even then, the Spectre x360 machine is only 0.8 inch deeper front-to-back. We suspect most of us can clear a sliver of extra room on our desks to save $300 (between comparable models) and gain two extra hours of battery life. The HP system is, to our eyes, the better deal, even if we do like the look and feel of the XPS 13 2-in-1 a bit better.

All in all, both the Lenovo Yoga 910 and Dell XPS 13 are 2 of the best laptops that have come out in the past few months. Either one could be a major productivity and entertainment laptop device even for different kinds of users.

Given that Microsoft has yet to announce the SP4’s successor, Dell may be biting off more than it can chew with the XPS 13 2-in-1. It may be built based on the best Ultrabook around and updated it with some much-needed modern touches, but if Microsoft builds upon the success of the Surface Pro 4 in the next iteration expected this year, Dell may have quite a bit of competition in its hands.

It’s has XPS 13 in the name, but this is a very different laptop to the standard XPS 13. It’s less powerful, but lighter and should have better battery life. It’s a case of horses for courses: if thin and light is your priority and you won’t be doing much in the way of intense multimedia work, it’s very attractive. Still, the regular model will always be better value for those who don’t want a 2-in-1 design.

The XPS 13 is one of our favourite Windows laptops, and I don't see that changing with this convertible model. It looks gorgeous, makes a few welcome changes, and adds a genuinely useful rotating hinge for doubling up as a tablet.

Port wise there are two USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3, microSD and a 3.5mm headphones jack. Notice how it's all future-proofed small scale? Yep, that seems to be the way things are going. Oh, and there's a fingerprint scanner too.

On top of that, Dell pared down the port selection on the 2-in-1; you get a Thunderbolt 3 port (which can support up to two 4K monitors) and a USB Type-C port. There’s not a single full-size USB port (the standard model has two), which could be a big inconvenience depending on your needs.

Like the Surface Studio, the XPS 27 folds almost flat, like a designer's easel. It's debatable how much of an advantage that is unless you make heavy use of a stylus, but it certainly delivers more flexibility than anything Apple's iMacs offer.

The Dell XPS 13 was already excellent, and it’s a smart move from Dell to release this hybrid edition without compromising the design and functionality of the original vision. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is an ultrabook powerhouse and will likely fit in to any home or work environment better than many other laptops out there. The thin bezels, excellent keyboard and thoughtful design are marred only by a high asking price. Then again, this is the future.

Another plus points on the screen is the 3200 x 1800-pixel screen, which is the maximum resolution. The colors were bright and vivid, and videos played smoothly. A 4K option won’t be available, unfortunately. You do get fewer ports than on the regular XPS 13, and the battery life could be longer, but overall, the XPS 13 2-in-1 is a remarkable hybrid laptop and tablet In 1.

The XPS 13 2-in-1 sacrifices almost nothing in achieving its new design, save for a now-smaller microSD card reader and standard barrel connector for power. That said, despite its massive improvements and centering (at last), we’re still not exactly excited about the webcam beneath the screen.

A tad slower. The XPS 13 with Kaby Lake Refresh Core i5 trails the Core i7 in raw multi-core performance, but as far as overall system performance is concerned, the model with i7 is only marginally faster.

The “Plus” in the Dell XPS 13 Plus isn’t just a marketing gimmick. The redesigned keyboard, trackpad and internals make for a premium package that feels like a step up from the XPS 13. Of course, that comes at a cost: you’ll pay a few hundred dollars more for them than the standard XPS 13. Is that worth it? For many people, perhaps not — the XPS 13 is already a great laptop, and you would generally be better off investing the money in more memory or storage space. But the new design is undeniably cool, with a minimalist aesthetic that will appeal to those who value style and substance and don’t mind paying a bit extra to get it.

Dell has split the iconic XPS 13 Ultrabook into 2 lines for 2022. We look at both the standard XPS 13 (9315) and XPS 13 Plus (9320) in this review. Both are extremely compact CNC aluminum 13.4” laptops with 16:10 aspect ratio narrow bezel displays, Wi-Fi 6E, Thunderbolt 4 and Intel Iris Xe graphics. The Plus offers higher end display options including our 3.5K OLED and 4K IPS, and it has a faster CPU. The Plus sports a new keyboard design and an interesting borderless trackpad too. The XPS 13 standard edition fights back with a lower price tag and a more conventional keyboard.

The XPS 13 Plus looks incredible and boasts some impressive power under the hood to match. There is a lot to like and it is certainly easy to carry around. However, the battery life simply isn’t up to the mark and Dell’s quality control, particularly when it comes to its drivers, resulted in issues with audio and performance. While it appears this may be rectified with a future software fix, the XPS Plus is difficult to recommend in its current state. Dell's XPX 13 Plus is well designed, light and packs a powerful punch, however, it needs better battery life and polish to take the ultra-portables crown.

So it may seem bold to say that the Dell XPS 13 Plus is the most fantastic 13″ laptop we’ve seen in 2022. Bear with me; there are excellent reasons why this is how we feel. While the competition has undoubtedly released competent and comparable machines, the 2022 Dell XPS 13 Plus brought something no one else has. Dell broke the XPS design mold this year and brought something unique and worth discussing. Let’s find out what makes the Dell XPS 13 Plus the most fantastic 13″ laptop of 2022.

I have mixed emotions about this laptop. The Dell XPS 13 Plus is one of the most powerful ultraportables ever, and Dell deserves credit for delivering such speed in a design that’s even more compact than the MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Pro M2. The new Dell also offers a very comfortable keyboard and top-notch OLED display (if you’re willing to splurge). The reason why the XPS 13 Plus doesn’t earn a higher rating is because of its short battery life (though you can expect more endurance from a non-OLED model) and its capacitive function row, which looks and feels a bit chintzy for a $1,200 laptop. And some may be turned off by the dearth of ports and how warm the bottom can get. In this price range I prefer the MacBook Air M2 for its much longer battery life, more ports and less fussy touchpad. But overall the XPS 13 Plus is a good option if you prefer Windows. I want to like the XPS 13 Plus. It has wonderfully thin bezels, a true edge-to-edge keyboard, and a 14-core processor that can, under optimal conditions, post impressive results. But ultimately, Dell made an achingly attractive laptop with a middling keyboard, annoying touchpad, and too few ports. The 14-core processor overwhelms the cooling system, leading to excessive exterior temperatures. Dell’s outgoing Dell XPS 13 9310 was a better laptop. It had a better keyboard and touchpad, the same gorgeous OLED display, longer battery life, and wasn’t as hot in day-to-day use. The new XPS 13 Plus is superior only in performance—but you’ll need an ice pack to make the most of it.

Dell's new XPS 13 Plus is a well-equipped, powerful 13-inch laptop that will satisfy a number of productivity and content creation use cases and a wide swath of mainstream laptop users. It has a great looking, modern design and impeccable build quality, along with top shelf materials and components, like its killer 3.5K OLED display option in our test system. However, the combination of Intel's powerful but power-hungry and warm-running Alder Lake 12th Gen Core i7-1280P 14-core chip, seem to be a bit too much for Dell's thermal solution to handle in this wafer-thin laptop design. Though noise output from the machine was very tame and actually best-of-breed in the 2.5 - 3 lb laptop category, the bottom of the machine can get uncomfortably warm at its Ultra Performance power and thermal settings. Battery life left something to be desired as well. In addition, with only two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports available on this machine, some users may find this laptop's IO expansion options to be too limited. We really wish Dell had not removed the microSD card reader as well.

If this is the future of Dell’s XPS family, then bring it on. The new keyboard deck design with its hidden touchpad, huge keycaps and capacitive touch bar gets a solid thumbs up from me and the updated chassis design breathes new life into the classic XPS formula. Wrap all that up with Intel’s 12th generation CPUs, an excellent touchscreen display and powerful speaker system, and Dell truly has a winner on its hands. The middling battery life sets it behind the M2 MacBook Air but this is otherwise a superlative alternative.

Are you ready for the future? Dell certainly is, and for them, the future is the XPS 13 Plus. Although the laptop sports an incredibly minimalistic and polarizing design, it doesn’t skimp in the power department — thanks to its Core i7 processor. The 4K OLED display is a vision of loveliness and the keyboard is comfortable, which just serves to sweeten the pot. However, as beautiful as the display is, it’s also a drain on the battery life. And then there’s that polarizing design. Some, like myself, will be drawn to the ultra-minimalistic aesthetic while others will take issue with the invisible touchpad and absent headset jack. Those looking for a more traditional take on the laptop should check out the $1,549 Acer Swift 5. If you’re team Apple, the $1,899 MacBook Air M2 is the way to go. But if you’re looking for a piece of the future right now, then the $1,910 ($1,273 starting) Dell XPS 13 Plus is for you.

I haven’t reviewed the regular XPS 13 yet, but my sense is that Dell intends for that to remain most people’s option and for the Plus to be the “power user” laptop. But with its limited connectivity and questionable capacity to hold its own under “power user” loads, I’d hesitate to recommend this model to that group. I suspect that folks who need the full power of a Core i7-1280P may want something with USB-A at the very least.

It’s clear that Dell is onto something special with the XPS 13 Plus. More than any other laptop I’ve reviewed in the past couple of years, this is the one people want to stop me and see. While the standard XPS 13 will likely be the more popular option because of its price and more conventional keyboard and touchpad, the XPS 13 Plus feels less like a wild experiment and more like a gentle nudge to the rest of the industry in a new direction.

The XPS 13 Plus starts at $1,200 with a 512GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, and a 1,920 by 1,200 (FHD+) LCD monitor. As usual, I'd suggest bumping up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD for $1,499 if you're planning to keep the laptop for four years or more. And if you want OLED, expect to spend at least $1,799. Ultimately, I have to give Dell credit for once again attempting to push laptop designs forward with the XPS 13 Plus. Like the InfinityEdge Display before it, there are plenty of great ideas in this computer that competitors may end up adopting. I just hope Dell considers dealing with the potential usability issues eventually (and maybe throw in a headphone jack too). If you're trying to show us the future of computing, don't make it feel like a step backward.

Ultimately if you love the new look, you’ll enjoy this shiny new device, even if it can’t replace the XPS 13 (still offered in its traditional form), the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, or the Apple MacBook Air. Hopefully, some of the positive new elements will make their way onto other laptops or an improved XPS 13 Plus. And we wouldn’t be surprised if some future laptops took cues from this machine. The future has to start somewhere. Why not today?

So, should you buy the XPS 13 Plus? I'd say yes if you're looking for something that looks out of the ordinary but is also very well constructed. The XPS 13 Plus has the look and feel of a premium ultraportable, but its merely average performance and battery life prevent a stronger recommendation. I also want the haptic touchpad to be more dependable. I liked the look and feel of HP's premium Dragonfly Pro, and the more conventional HP Pavilion Plus 14 offers a well-rounded package and a slightly larger OLED panel. There's also the Asus Zenbook S 13, an even more portable OLED ultraportable with a long runtime.

If you’re looking for something special, the Dell XPS 13 Plus is for you: Its chic case and top display make it an ultrabook that is more than just a work machine for text and spreadsheets. However, the unique streamlined concept is also the sticking point, only if you can cope with it should you opt for the XPS 13. Otherwise, the touchpad frustration in office use will spoil the pleasure of the beautiful design.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus (2023) is a frustrating laptop in many ways. It should be applauded for standing out from the crowd while still getting some basics, like an excellent keyboard and trackpad experience, correct. The 3.5K OLED display is wondrous too. But, the proof is in the pudding, and value-for-money performance is fundamental. The Dell XPS 13 Plus just doesn’t keep up. The LG Gram SuperSlim and Samsung Galaxy Book 3 360 both outstrip this device in terms of speed, despite the latter offering a lower-powered chip. Battery life is extremely disappointing too, falling well foul of high-end modern standards. The Dell XPS rethink needs a rethink if it’s going to contend with excellent devices like the MacBook Air M2 once again. Check out our Best Laptop guide for even more options.

Dell’s second-generation XPS 13 Plus is an ultrabook that puts forms before function - and that doesn’t always pay off. While it looks seriously premium despite its midrange price tag, some poor design choices made in the name of aesthetics still haunt it even though the new processor gives it a decent performance boost.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus is an attractive laptop, even a stunning one when you admire its trim size, glorious high-res OLED touch screen, and seamless palm rest. However, unless you settle for the base IPS screen, this XPS's battery life is sadly just not competitive with other ultraportables, and its lack of ports beyond Thunderbolt is a nuisance, adapters notwithstanding. The Dell earns more points for style than for execution, but the Plus needs more pluses than this for another chance at the top spot.

There are some alternatives to consider, however. The Dell XPS 13 9315 is a good alternative since it’s cheaper and has a more traditional keyboard and touchpad. It’s less powerful with 15-watt U-series CPUS, though, while providing much better battery life.

The Dell XPS 13 9345 is a solid-built, powerful, and light companion on the go. Its battery life is amazing despite the modest capacity of just 55Wh – 20 hours of videos. Still, keep in mind that this result is achieved with the default 1200p IPS panel. If you get a machine with one of the optional high-res touchscreens this could hinder more or less the autonomous work. The upgradability is almost non-existent but that’s something normal for all other machines that are based on the Qualcomm SoC. The gadget supports Type-C charging which sounds great on paper. However, since this laptop has just two USB4 ports, when the power adapter is plugged in, only one of the ports is available. Perhaps you have to buy an external USB splitter to deal with this issue. For normal work, this fella feels super responsive.

The Dell XPS 13 9345 could very well be the best productivity laptop for its size. It’s powerful, ultracompact, and is quite a multimedia beast. Between a tablet (iPads included) and this, I would choose this laptop in a heartbeat but ultimately, it depends on whether your workflow / use case requires specific software or not, and if you can afford its asking price of RM8,899. To me, having this package along with Dell’s class-leading aftersales support makes it worth the investment.

And finally – the price. This specific base configuration of the Dell XPS 9345 is at RM6,999 and I think it is definitely expensive, considering that we can get a Dell XPS 13 9340 that is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H at the exact same price with the exact same design. Getting an Intel-powered laptop is definitely not going to be as power-efficient as the Snapdragon version – but at least we don’t have to worry about incompatibility issues. I honestly think that the XPS 13 is a great design with its size and weight, but the lack of an audio jack could be an issue for many people. The Snapdragon chip is an entirely different issue, so I recommend that you stay away from the Snapdragon X Elite unless you know what you’re signing up for.

The new Dell XPS 13 OLED delivers one of the best viewing experiences and delivers strong performance thanks to Intel's new Lunar Lake chips, all in a compact chassis. Though its battery life isn’t the greatest and some design elements are off-putting, its astonishing display and ultraportable design make up for its flaws.

I think the Dell XPS 13 is on the pricier side. Just a wee bit. It does offer good hardware, powerful performance that is good enough for regular office work, and design that is minimalistic and tasteful. Its display is lovely and the Snapdragon X Elite chipset handles day-to-day workloads smoothly, and the NPU chip inside it effectively manages the latest AI software and features. Additionally, the laptop offers strong privacy features, impressive audio quality, and excellent battery life, making it a well-rounded package. But. There is always a but. The competition is strong. The Apple MacBook Air is equally versatile and, if you don’t have a preference for the Windows 11, is a better and cheaper option.

The Dell XPS 13 has spent a dozen years at or near the top of the ultraportable pile, and its change from x86 to Arm processor architecture doesn't change that. It falls short of Editors' Choice honors, however, because it's more of a fashion plate than a productivity workhorse—rivals including the Lenovo X1 Carbon, the HP OmniBook X 14 (with a dimmer though adequate display but double the Dell laptop's battery life), and several Asus Zenbook OLED models provide more comfort and connectivity if less flair as conversation pieces, like our Editors' Choice award-holding Asus Zenbook 14 OLED Touch.

Sticking a Snapdragon CPU inside the XPS 13 makes a lot of sense. Dell’s premium thin-and-light is wonderfully portable, and Qualcomm’s efficient silicon has helped boost battery life over the Intel version. Performance is basically on par, with more than enough desktop muscle for office work and simpler creative tasks, and Windows on ARM is getting better all the time. That it’s also slightly cheaper is another win. The issues I had with the old Dell XPS 13 haven’t been fixed, though. The capacitive shortcuts are more flashy than functional, the keyboard layout takes some learning, and the touchpad was especially troublesome during my testing – though this could’ve been an isolated issue with my review unit. If I was in the market for a Copilot+ laptop, I’d probably reach for a Microsoft Surface Pro or Surface Laptop before one of these.

Dell's XPS 13 embodies the ultraportable, fast, cool, and efficient laptop experience all Copilot+ PCs seek to deliver. It features a bold design that you either love or you don't, but you have to give Dell credit for sticking to its vision. The minimalist approach isn't for everyone, and users that need lots of connectivity won't have much use for the spare port selection. I'd recommend this laptop to freelancers, remote and hybrid workers, and anyone that needs battery life that extends multiple days. There's an argument to be made for preferring the Intel version of this year's XPS 13, or the similarly-priced, similarly-sized Lenovo Slim 7x, which features a similar build but more utilitarian design approach.

The Dell XPS 13 line has, in recent years, been challenged by the power consumption requirements of modern Intel processors, as we saw in the Dell XPS 13 9315. In response, Dell split the line into the more budget-conscious XPS 13, which had great battery life but mediocre performance, and the XPS 13 Plus, which delivered better (though still not excellent) performance with modest battery life. Shoppers had to choose. Dell’s new XPS 13 with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite reunites the XPS 13 line-up. The XPS 13 Plus is gone, replaced with this new XPS 13 as the flagship model. Confusingly, Dell still offers an Intel-powered XPS but it’s a less appealing choice, not only because it offers a less attractive Intel Core Ultra processor, but also because the standard model has just 8GB of RAM.

Against other XPS laptops in the past, the new XPS 13 (2024) is a return to form for Dell in offering a classy, modern ultrabook with beefy performance, a responsive display and decent battery life. Its keyboard also impresses, as does its Gorilla Glass trackpad. However, it’s in the context of the other Arm-based Windows ultrabooks, such as the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge, where the XPS 13 (2024) falls short with a poorer port selection, shorter battery life, and a display that while good, lacks a little bit of brightness and overall detail.

The XPS in Dell stands for Extreme Performance System, and for a long time, most XPS machines have stood by that. The latest XPS 13 9345 with the Snapdragon X Elite chipset continues to do that but now does things better. The battery life is much better than Intel CPU options, and you get an excellent form factor. Although the AI features aren't there yet, the XPS 13 is a good machine for anyone looking to buy an ultrabook that offers style, good performance, excellent battery life, bright and colourful display (OLED), and is sleek and compact. As for alternatives, you can look at the Asus Zenbook S13 OLED, which costs less, offers good performance, has more ports, and has a keyboard that's not as cramped. Then there's the Apple MacBook Air 13 M3, which is similarly priced but once again offers a better keyboard experience, extra ports, and better app support.

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the most premium compact laptops of 2024, which even matches the performance and efficiency of a modern MacBook. Not only that, it has a great display and an excellent set of speakers, and its unique take on the keyboard and trackpad makes it stand out from the crowd. This laptop is not for everyone who just wants a laptop; instead, this machine is for those who value and appreciate premium products with cutting-edge technology.

For 2024 you now have a choice between the Intel and this version of the Dell XPS 13 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite ARM-based processor for longer battery life and cooler, quieter temperatures. This is a CoPilot+ PC with a 45 TOPs NPU and it’s available with an array of IPS and OLED 13.4” displays in a 16:10 aspect ratio. You can get it with up to 64GB RAM and a 2TB SSD. As ever, the XPS 13 is one of the smallest and lightest Windows 11 laptops on the market.

The Dell XPS 13 (9345) takes an AI-powered spin on the XPS 13, but the Snapdragon chip doesn’t offer meaningful improvements in most departments and comes with considerable downgrades just about everywhere. It’s a letdown compared to the Intel Core 7 Ultra 155H-powered XPS 13, which was itself under-performing next to the competition. The system may get the benefit of an NPU capable of 45 TOPS, but I’ve yet to see Windows taking meaningful advantage of that, and any system with even a low-level discrete GPU, such as the RTX 4050, can deliver more AI inference muscle than that. The XPS 13 (9345) is just too much for too little.

When I think of Dell's XPS 13 series of Ultrabooks, I think of generally good, highly portable laptops that are a bit overpriced. But the Dell XPS 13 (2024), equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite, is one of the best of this line thanks to its excellent performance and battery life. Much improved ventilation doesn't throttle the CPU, the display is phenomenal, and the build quality is leagues better than previous models. The only real downsides are the poor port selection, the inaccessible toolbar, and the steep pricing.

The Dell XPS 13 is someone’s perfect laptop. I love the design, the battery life, and the performance. But the display and keyboard are tough for me to get over. Sure, my eyes could adjust to the low-color, but my hands won’t get used to cramping up from using that keyboard. If you’re looking for a light laptop that’s still within that 13-inch range, check out the MacBook Air 13-inch. It’s everything you need except wider and deeper, offering you more space to type. But overall, if you’re comfortable with a tighter space and a duller display, the Dell XPS 13 provides a long list of positives to consider.

The switch to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite was supposed to provide a serious uptick in performance and efficiency over Intel’s Meteor Lake chipset. Surprisingly, while the performance is certainly there, battery life remained closer than I would have imagined. It’s fair to say that you won’t get better battery life than the Intel version of the XPS 13, and the MacBook Air M3 remains pretty far ahead. At the same time, the XPS 13 9345 ran a lot cooler, which is a major benefit. That alone is enough to warrant serious consideration. Then again, there will always be some degree of some uncertainty over compatibility with Windows on Arm, and it does cost an extra $150. I think that’s worth the upgrade, but it may not be a straightforward choice. Either way, I can say that if you want a small, light, and fast laptop, the XPS 13 (9345) is a solid choice.

The Dell XPS 13 has long been a go-to option for premium laptop buyers — and Dell is giving customers more options than ever. Along with offering a Snapdragon X Elite version of the XPS 13, Dell is, of course, also selling an Intel Lunar Lake iteration — so whether you’re loyal to Intel or willing to make the switch to an ARM-based machine, Dell has something for you. Lunar Lake is built to compete directly with Qualcomm, allowing for better power efficiency that translates to longer battery life with similar performance. It’s essentially Intel’s attempt to truly compete with a new generation of chips that could take a bigger bite out of Intel’s bottom line.

I love the XPS 13’s portability. It’s a laptop that you can use anywhere and easily carry it around. But when I open it up and struggle with the keyboard and touchpad, I’m frustrated. I remember the older XPS design that was just as portable but a lot more comfortable. Put a “normal” keyboard with real function keys and a haptic touchpad that I can actually see, and I’d be a lot happier. The performance is fine and the display is good enough for most people. I’m sure the OLED model would be as spectacular as always. But what saves the XPS 13 from a lower score — I still can’t fully recommend it — is the battery life. It’s a major step up from the older Intel models, and it elevates this to a laptop that will keep you working for a long time — so long as you can get past its unconventional design.
